Tantra massage in Amsterdam for a body that has not landed yet

Tantra is the slow one, paced by breath rather than by a sequence, and it needs ninety minutes before it begins to make sense. On a short break it answers a state that visitors arrive in constantly and rarely have a name for: tired without being sleepy, still moving at the speed of the journey, unable to settle in a room that is not theirs. The work does not argue with that. It uses it. There is no goal inside the hour and no arc towards one, which is why guests who come to it from the oil formats describe it as strange for twenty minutes and then obvious. It suits the middle evening of a long weekend better than the last night of a short one.

Where it comes from

What is given under the name in Europe today comes from a twentieth century reworking of older Indian practice, in which the ritual and devotional apparatus was set aside and the breath work, the pacing and the attention to the whole body were kept. Whether that is faithful is argued about at length elsewhere. What is not in dispute is that the resulting format is unusually well suited to a body that is agitated rather than sore, which is the state most travellers are in.

The technique

Breath leads and the hands follow it, rather than the other way round. She works slowly along the whole length of the body with long unbroken contact, holding position for far longer than any other format would, and the pauses are deliberate: the nervous system does more in the gap than in the stroke. Pressure is light to moderate throughout and never escalates. Where a guest is holding tension in the jaw or the shoulders, she will often stay there doing apparently nothing until it releases on its own.

What to expect

The opening is longer than in any other format and consists largely of nothing happening. Breathing, stillness, a hand resting rather than working. That stretch is the format rather than a preamble to it, and a guest who expects the massage to start is usually the guest who gets the least from the booking. From there the work is slow and full body, with long pauses that are not gaps. She will sometimes ask you to breathe differently and sometimes say nothing for ten minutes. She states her boundaries at the start, as everywhere here. The end is unmarked, and most guests stay lying down for several minutes after the booked time has run out.

Who it suits

The traveller whose body is still running on another clock. Guests who have had the oil formats before and want something that works differently rather than more. Anyone on a three-night weekend with an evening in the middle that has nothing either side of it. It does not suit a narrow window, an early flight or a guest who wants to be worked on rather than attended to, and the thread will say so plainly if that is what you describe.

Benefits

It does something for restlessness that pressure cannot. Visitors who cannot settle on the first or second night of a trip, who have tried walking it off and drinking it off, tend to find this is the thing that works, and the effect usually lasts into the following day rather than the following hour.

Length

The shortest booking worth making here is ninety minutes, at 270 euros. Two hours at 360 is where the format is most itself, and three at 540 suits a long weekend with a free morning. Sixty minutes is not offered as a serious option for this one, because the opening alone would take a third of it.

In the room you hold

Tantra massage in Amsterdam, breath led and unhurried, outcall to a central room, ninety minutes to three hours, suited to an evening with nothing behind it.

Questions

Why can it not be booked for a single hour?

Because the first twenty minutes are the opening and the last ten are the settling, which would leave half an hour of work in a sixty minute booking. Ninety minutes at 270 euros is the shortest version that does what the format is for. If the evening cannot hold ninety, the oil formats give you a complete booking inside an hour and this one does not.

Nothing like this has been part of a trip of mine before. Is it a strange first booking?

It is a more demanding first booking than the oil formats, and the thread will say so if you ask. Nothing about it is difficult, but it asks you to stay with a stretch where nothing appears to be happening, and some people find that harder than they expect. If the trip is one night, start with sensual or oil work. If it is three, this is a good use of the middle evening.

Does it help with jet lag?

It is the format most often asked for by guests who cannot settle, and it tends to work with the wakefulness rather than against it. What it will not do is reset a clock that is four hours out; nothing will. What it does reliably is stop the agitation that keeps someone pacing a hotel room at one in the morning on the first night of a trip.

Can I ask her not to talk during it?

Yes, and it is asked for often. Say so in the first message rather than in the room. Some of the breath work involves her speaking, and she will tell you which part of it she holds on to and which she can drop. A visitor who has spent all day operating in English and has nothing left is not an unusual guest here.
